Montenegro could introduce a visa regime for citizens of the Russian Federation starting from the autumn of next year. The information was confirmed by the Montenegrin Embassy in Moscow for RTVI. According to diplomats, the measure is part of the commitments undertaken by the Balkan state in the process of joining the European Union.

“In accordance with the obligations assumed by Montenegro on the path to European integration, the country must fully align its visa policy with that of the EU by the end of the third quarter of 2026. This includes, among other things, the introduction of a visa regime for citizens of the Russian Federation,” the representatives of the diplomatic mission clarified.

At present, Russian citizens can enter Montenegro without a visa for a period of up to 30 days, based on a bilateral agreement. Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić recently stated that the authorities are preparing to cancel the visa-free regime for Russians “very soon”.
