The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, stated during a broadcast on “Moscow 24” that all economic sectors of the capital are experiencing an acute labor shortage, estimating the deficit at about 500 thousand specialists. “Of these, 70% are skilled workers, namely people with technical professions and advanced practical skills,” the mayor clarified.

According to him, the lack of skilled workers has been a constant problem, but currently “the situation has worsened even more”. Sobyanin explained that this deficit is fueled by demographic factors and the accelerated pace of economic development.

The mayor further added that, in the past, the educational system in Russia was unbalanced, favoring the training of specialists with higher education at the expense of those from professional colleges.

“Now we are trying to reverse this pyramid,” Sobyanin concluded.
