“Russia sent a threatening message to Estonia on Monday through the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, in the context of large-scale NATO exercises scheduled to take place in the Baltic country between 5 and 23 May, according to the news agencies Ukraine Today and Unian, as reported by Agerpres.
Zakharova stated that Estonia is “being used for exploration purposes. The result of such a loss of critical thinking is always sad,” and suggested that Estonian authorities should “look at Ukraine and draw conclusions!”
The annoyance of Moscow was provoked by the Siil (Hedgehog) 2025 exercises, which will involve over 16,000 soldiers from Estonia and allied countries within NATO, especially from the United Kingdom and France.
The purpose of these exercises is to test the capability of Estonian defense forces and NATO units to respond to various threat scenarios, as well as to practice mechanisms for rapid deployment and swift integration of additional allied forces within the defense structures of the Baltic country, according to the cited news agencies.
