Russia recorded a record level of 12.2 billion dollars, money that left the country in the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the Central Bank. The amount was 8.7 times greater than the 1.4 billion dollars recorded in the first quarter and represents the highest quarterly value since the Central Bank began compiling data in 1994, fueling questions about how much capital is leaving the country unrecorded, reports TVP World.

The previous record was 8.3 billion dollars, registered in the first quarter of 2009, reported by Moscow Times. The staggering sum has renewed speculations that wealthy Russians are transferring their assets abroad.

If this figure reflects unregistered capital outflows, it could have significant consequences for Russia, as the money transferred abroad could reduce the supply of foreign currency available on the domestic market, could put pressure on the ruble, and could divert funds from investments within the country.

The amount was recorded in the “errors and omissions” category of the Central Bank’s balance of payments, which is officially treated as a measure of “statistical discrepancies”.
