President Nicuşor Dan stated that the Republic of Moldova is not in danger of being attacked by Russia, as long as Ukraine is not defeated in war.
“The Republic of Moldova only has two neighbors, Ukraine and Romania. Fortunately, Ukraine is holding on, meaning Moldova cannot be accessed from this direction, and even less so from Romania, which is a NATO member. So, as long as Ukraine is holding on, this danger does not exist”, Nicuşor Dan clarified, in an interview for stirileprotv.ro.
The head of state made these clarifications after being asked whether Romania would intervene to defend its citizens in the Republic of Moldova in the event of a Russian attack. Nicuşor Dan emphasized that this danger does not exist.
On the other hand, the president also said that if the pro-Russian parties had won the elections in the Republic of Moldova, there would have been the danger of a strengthening of the Russian presence in Transnistria:
“If the pro-Russian forces had won, then they would have allowed a strengthening of the small armed force of about 1,000 people that is now in Transnistria. But as it is, Moldova, as long as Ukraine is holding on, has no threat at all”, added President Nicuşor Dan.
