The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, spoke Thursday evening about the report on the annulled presidential elections of 2024. The head of state says that Romania has been the target of a hybrid war for over ten years and that the former candidate Călin Georgescu “was supported by an infrastructure created by the Russian Federation”. The President also said that the report will be published “definitely” this year and that it will provide more details than the one published by the General Prosecutor’s Office.
Nicușor Dan made these statements in response to questions during an interview for Europa FM, Thursday evening. The President was asked about the report regarding the cancellation of the 2024 elections and when it would be made public.
“I had a very interesting correspondence with several institutions, I also had face-to-face discussions with representatives, very interesting discussions with people from civil society, it is a very sophisticated area that combines very new technological methods, combines artificial intelligence, the social sociology part, and I found people with exceptional skills and they even help us,” said Nicușor Dan.
When asked if he has a preliminary assessment, Nicușor Dan replied:
“Without a doubt, Romania has been the target of a hybrid war by Russia for at least ten years. Undeniably, Călin Georgescu has been supported by an infrastructure created by the Russian Federation.”
Of course, and it’s not a novelty. 90% of the things I know about elections are things that can be made public and will be systematically made public. I think it was January or February when the Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Florența, came out with a report proving that some Russian agents worked for Călin Georgescu.”
