Hakassia cuts compensation for families of soldiers killed in Ukraine. The budget no longer even covers “funeral assistance”
The regional government of Hakassia, a republic within the Russian Federation, has discontinued the financial aid granted to the families of soldiers who died in Ukraine. The regional compensation, amounting to 1.1 million rubles (≈ 11,600 euros), was offered since 2022, but has been discreetly eliminated, according to the publication “Sibir.Realii”. The announcement was confirmed by the leader of the “Popular Front” in the region, Ksenia Buganova, who pointed out that these amounts helped families cover funeral costs while waiting for federal payments, which can reach up to 13.5 million rubles (≈ 142,000 euros).
According to a source close to the government, the existence of these payments had been kept “under wraps”. Meanwhile, budget allocations for supporting war participants have drastically decreased: from 600 million rubles (≈ 6.3 million euros) in 2024 to just 287 million rubles (≈ 3 million euros) this year.
