The number of legally owned firearms in Poland has exceeded one million for the first time, according to data presented by the Polish police and reported by Euronews.com, after authorities in this country issued a record number of 50,700 gun permits in 2025. Civilians are arming themselves out of fear of a conflict with Russia, and shooting ranges have reported a sudden increase in the number of visitors.
The number of active permits reached 411,769 by the end of last year, more than double the 192,819 registered in 2015. The number of weapons in civilian possession climbed to 1,037,778, an increase of over 107,000 from 2024.
Collector’s permits accounted for the most requests in 2025, with 21,071 decisions. Sports permits ranked second with 17,601, followed by 7,254 permits for personal protection.
