Protests have erupted in several cities across the United States after Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care medical assistant, was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent during a federal immigration operation in Minneapolis.

Demonstrations have taken place in Minneapolis, New York, Washington, and Los Angeles. In Minnesota, hundreds of people took to the streets despite sub-zero temperatures, confronting federal agents in a city already marked by another deadly incident, which occurred earlier in the month and involved an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officer.

The death of Alex Pretti has intensified the national debate on immigration law enforcement and the role of federal agencies, amplifying political pressures on the Trump administration. Several Democratic leaders are calling for the withdrawal of federal agents from Minnesota and are questioning the funding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The incident comes in a context of increased sensitivity in Minneapolis, following the killing, on January 7, of another individual, Renee Nicole Good, during a federal intervention, an event that has strained relations between local authorities, the federal government, and the community.
