Vladimir Putin and Alexandr Lukashenko will not attend the Peace Council meeting in Washington, organized by Donald Trump. The two claim their schedules are too busy.

Dmitri Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, told journalists that a visit to the USA is not included in Vladimir Putin’s schedule.

In turn, Alexander Lukashenko’s spokesperson, Natalia Eismont, mentioned that the invitation to the first meeting of the Peace Council leaders “arrived late, the president’s work schedule for this period having already been planned”, according to Digi24. She also mentioned “possible logistical difficulties” due to sanctions against Lukashenko. Instead of the president, Belarus will be represented at the first meeting of the organization by Foreign Minister Maxim Rizhenkov.

Trump announced the creation of the “Peace Council”, claiming that he wants to administer the Gaza sector after the end of military operations in this area. At the same time, the organization’s statute describes broader competencies, including ensuring lasting peace in conflict-affected regions.

The first meeting of the Council is scheduled to take place on February 19, in Washington.
