A potential decision by the United States to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles will lead to the \”destruction of Russo-American relations\”, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared in an interview highlighted on Sunday by The Moscow Times.
The Tomahawk missiles have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, being capable of hitting targets deep within Russian territory.
\”I have already said that this will lead to the destruction of our relations, or at least the emerging positive trends in these relations. I say what I think, and the way things will evolve does not depend only on us and does not depend only on me\”, Putin said in the interview given to journalist Pavel Zarubin from the state television.
Putin publicly speaks about the Tomahawk missiles twice in three days
In a previous statement from October 3, made on the occasion of his participation in the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin referred to the same subject.
He described the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Kiev as a \”qualitatively new\” stage of escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington.
\”Will this affect the relations (between the USA and Russia), under conditions where there is some light at the end of the tunnel? Of course, it will\”, the Russian president affirmed at that time, emphasizing that the American cruise missiles are a \”powerful weapon\”.
He insisted that it would be impossible for Ukrainians to use the Tomahawk missiles without the direct involvement of American military personnel and that, therefore, any delivery of such missiles to Ukraine would trigger a new escalation.
