The CEO of the largest German defense industry concern, Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, believes that the war in Ukraine will not end in 2026, because, in his opinion, Russia is not interested in stopping the fighting. In this context, Papperger emphasized the need to continue supporting Kiev and announced that his company is ready to deliver additional weaponry.
“We can help in many areas. Currently, we produce more ammunition than is provided for in the contracts concluded with Ukraine,” he said in an interview given to the Berlin media platform Table Media. Papperger added that the group could provide more anti-aircraft defense systems, tanks, and drones, but funding for some of the products is not yet secured.
Exactly a year ago, Papperger stated that European Union countries do not have enough weapon stocks to guarantee Ukraine’s security and to cope with a possible Russian aggression. “Europeans and Ukrainians have nothing in the warehouses,” he said, explaining the situation by decades of minimal EU investments in the defense sector. According to him, as a result, the United States began to treat Europeans “like children”.
At the same time, the head of the concern expressed doubt that the US president, Donald Trump, could persuade Russia to end the war.
