The deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation have adopted in the second and third reading a bill that allows private security companies to receive combat firearms to protect critical objectives against drone attacks.
According to the document, the right to temporarily use such weapons will be granted to security companies created by entities from the fuel-energy complex (TEK), strategic enterprises, state companies, and natural monopolies. The measure will also apply to organizations that ensure the security of objectives included in the list of critical infrastructure, including those of maximum priority.
The law establishes the procedure by which security companies can request weapons from the National Guard of Russia (Rosgvardia). The weapons will be provided on a temporary basis and must be returned within two weeks after the expiration of the security contract or after the notification issued by Rosgvardia.
At the same time, private security companies will be able to purchase service weapons and civilian weapons authorized for professional use. Until now, they only had access to service weapons with limited harm capacity and civilian weapons intended for self-defense.
