Russia is amassing over 360,000 soldiers near Europe’s borders, as Vladimir Putin plans his next move, warned a former NATO official.

Parliamentarian and former German army official Roderich Kiesewetter stated that the year 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most “critical” years in recent European history, as Moscow continues to deploy significant military forces in Belarus, a hint of possible military objectives beyond Ukraine.

According to Kremlin figures, over 400,000 new recruits have joined the Russian army this year – surpassing the target set by the Russian president in January – while international military analysts have sounded the alarm about the “unprecedented in intensity” training exercises conducted by units nationwide in recent weeks.

In an interview with the German television station n-tv, Kiesewetter emphasized that the two Russian army corps stationed in Belarus, totaling between 350,000 and 360,000 combat-ready soldiers, represent one of the most alarming developments.
