Russia looks with skepticism at the involvement of European leaders in the American peace plan for Ukraine and awaits clarifications from Washington before new Russian-American discussions.
On Thursday, December 18, the Kremlin expressed its doubts about the possible positive contribution of European leaders to the United States’ plan to resolve the war in Ukraine, highlighting Moscow’s reservations about the role played by Europe in this diplomatic process.
The statements were made by the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, in an interview given to state television.
“Without a doubt, we are concerned that European leaders could have made any positive contribution, given their attitude. (…) The participation of Europeans, in terms of acceptability, does not bode well,” Dmitry Peskov affirmed, suggesting that the positions taken by European capitals raise questions in Moscow about the usefulness of their involvement in the plan proposed by Washington.
In this context, the Russian official specified that the Kremlin is currently awaiting direct information from the United States regarding any changes made to the peace plan after consultations with European leaders.
