Russia is ready to receive enriched uranium from Iran, if an agreement to this effect is reached, reconfirmed on Thursday the general director of the state nuclear company Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev. The foreign ministry in Moscow had stated on Wednesday that the proposal for Iran to send its uranium abroad was discussed as a way to alleviate US concerns about the danger of nuclear armament of the Islamic republic and remains valid, but the decision in this regard belongs to Tehran, notes Agerpres.
Also on Wednesday, Russia’s willingness to receive enriched uranium from Iran was mentioned by the Kremlin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, who stated that the option previously discussed with Iran has reappeared during the negotiations in Geneva for a nuclear agreement between the US and Iran.
The Iranian side communicated after Tuesday’s negotiations with the Americans that Tehran is willing to cease enriching uranium and to transfer some of its reserves of fissile material to Russia.
