Russian Deputy Aleksei Juravliov has stated that, for the so-called “eradication of Nazism,” he would consider the killing of up to half of Ukraine’s population acceptable.
In a conversation with the lawyer and blogger Ivan Mironov, the parliamentarian estimated that between 20 and 30% of Ukrainians are currently “Nazis”. When asked if they should be killed, Juravliov responded affirmatively and argued that even if the proportion reached 50%, they “should be destroyed”.
The deputy stated that some Ukrainians might change their opinions, but those who will not “must be destroyed”. When asked how the difference could be made between a “fascist” and a person who is not a fascist, Juravliov indicated the presence of a weapon as a criterion, arguing that any armed person should be considered a target.
The statements of the Russian deputy represent one of the most explicit public pleas for mass violence against Ukrainians made by a member of the State Duma.
