A group of Taliban officials have arrived in the Republic of Moldova. After the Afghan press wrote about this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that they are verifying who sent them the invitation and how they obtained visas.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock of Afghanistan, under Taliban control, announced that a delegation led by Deputy Minister Sadr Azam Osmani is making an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, from August 2 to 7. According to bani.md, the agenda was to include discussions on expanding cooperation in agriculture, agricultural research, plant protection, modern agricultural technologies, and the implementation of joint programs.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of Afghanistan has received entry visas to the Republic of Moldova. The visit was initiated in the context of discussions held by local agricultural producers with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova regarding possible humanitarian exports to Afghanistan, a country facing a serious food insecurity situation.”
We clarify that the delegation that arrived in the Republic of Moldova is not subject to international sanctions. At the same time, we note that the Republic of Moldova strictly adheres to international sanctions regimes and does not recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan. In this context, we communicate that there will be no bilateral meetings or official contacts with the representatives of the delegation.
The government has ordered a review of the issuance of invitations and visas, as well as a revision of internal procedures, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau.
What meetings the Taliban are going to have and what they will do for a week in the Republic of Moldova, is unknown.
