The authorities have closed all the beaches in the federal territory of Sirius, located near Sochi, following the outbreak of a large-scale fire on an oil tanker attacked by drones. Residents have been advised to avoid spending long periods outdoors and, as much as possible, to keep their windows closed.

The head of the local administration, Dmitri Plișkin, confirmed the fire and announced that the air quality and the state of the water in the area are constantly monitored. Access to the beaches has been blocked, and teams from the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations have arrived in the port of Sochi.

The residents report a strong smell of burning in several areas of the city. The fire, which broke out around 18:00, covered Soci with a dense cloud of black smoke.

According to preliminary information, the Aframax Rio oil tanker is on fire, which could carry between 95,000 and 100,000 tons of oil.
