The European Commission has announced that Ukraine’s financial and military needs for this year are fully covered, a month after Kiev signaled a funding deficit of 27 billion dollars, approximately 23.9 billion euros, in the Ministry of Defense’s budget, a sum that took Brussels by surprise.

“Today, through joint and coordinated efforts, we have identified the necessary means to cover the budgetary and defense needs of Ukraine for 2026”, the European Commission announced on Thursday, in a statement distributed by the President of the institution, Ursula von der Leyen. “We also reconfirmed the necessary steps for the funds to be released on time”, the message further states, according to Euronews.

With this announcement, the European executive closes, at least for the moment, the discussion started at the end of August, when the Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski asked allies to cover the deficit of 27 billion dollars and warned that essential weapon deliveries could be endangered.
