The Russian Federation Embassy in Chisinau has accused the authorities of the Republic of Moldova of violating international norms. The institution claims that on June 25, two Russian diplomatic couriers were allegedly detained at Chisinau International Airport.
The diplomatic mission accuses the authorities of having asked the responsible parties to surrender their mobile phones and of having inspected the diplomatic correspondence.
Subsequently, the Moldovan ambassador to Russia, Lilian Darii, was summoned. The official received a note referring to the alleged incident.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects the unfounded statements of the Russian Federation Embassy in Chisinau. The claims that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova would have violated the provisions of international law are false. The diplomatic bag was not opened, detained, or subjected to any checks that would contravene the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Also, the diplomatic couriers were not detained. The authorities of the Republic of Moldova acted in full compliance with international obligations and national legislation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau announced.
The authority in the Republic of Moldova, in context, has accused Russia of selectively invoking the norms of international law.
