The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, presented the preliminary results of the activity of the Ukrainian delegation in Miami, where consultations took place with representatives of the United States of America regarding several document projects aimed at ending the war.
According to the leader from Kiev, during the discussions, projects related to future mandatory legal security guarantees for Ukraine were also coordinated. The statements were made during a speech held on the occasion of the Diplomatic Service Workers’ Day.
“Our main objective is a fair peace and the end of the war. For now, there is a war, but we are doing everything possible for our victory to be achieved diplomatically. At least diplomatically. This is important to save as many of our heroic military, of our fighters,” Zelenski declared.
The President of Ukraine specified that the Ukrainian delegation of negotiators is currently returning from the United States, and in the morning he will have more details regarding the results of the meetings. “Everything that could be done for the first drafts of the documents is already done. There are 20 points of the plan – probably not everything is perfect, but this plan exists,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Zelenski mentioned that security guarantees between Ukraine, European states, and the USA were developed, in the form of a framework document. Also, there is a separate document between Ukraine and the United States, which aims at bilateral security guarantees.
“We see that these bilateral guarantees need to be examined in the US Congress, with certain details and confidential annexes,” he said, without providing additional details, at the request of the American side.
Zelenski added that he saw the first versions of the documents and that they include almost 90% of the annexes considered essential for Ukraine, especially those related to the capabilities of the Ukrainian army and the country’s security level after signing these guarantees.
“Everything looks quite solid,” Zelenski affirmed, mentioning that the documents are the result of a common work of Ukraine and the United States, which indicates a closeness to a concrete result.
In addition, the president announced that the first project of an agreement on the reconstruction of Ukraine was also developed. “In principle, the basic chapter of all documents is ready. However, there are aspects on which we are not prepared to make concessions and I am sure there are also things that the Russian side is not willing to accept,” Zelenski declared.
He further specified that the representatives of the United States continue negotiations with the Russian side, and later Ukraine will receive feedback on these discussions. At the same time, the president mentioned that the USA requested that the details of the document formats that have not yet been agreed upon should not be made public.
