The Chief of the Russian Army’s General Staff, Valeri Gherasimov, stated on Thursday that the situation in the Donbas region has become “critical” for the Ukrainian forces in the face of the Russian troops’ advance.
“The situation in Donbas is becoming critical for the armed forces of Ukraine”, Gherasimov declared in a meeting with foreign military attachés.
According to his statements, quoted by Russian press agencies, the Ukrainian command was forced to deploy “additional units in the area” to halt the Russian advance.
“However, these measures have not helped the enemy, the Russian offensive in Donbas continues,” stated the Chief of the Russian Army’s General Staff, reports Agerpres.
In this regard, he emphasized that the Russian army is currently focusing its main efforts on establishing “total control” over the Donbas region, as well as over the Herson and Zaporozhye regions, which were annexed by Moscow in September 2022.
In addition, the Russian forces are making progress in creating a “security zone” in the Ukrainian regions bordering Russia, he added.
Gherasimov insisted that the Russian army maintains its initiative on the battlefield despite the financial and military aid provided to Ukraine by Western countries.
