French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Tuesday, November 25, that there is “finally a chance to make real progress towards a good peace” between Ukraine and Russia.

“But the absolute condition for a good peace is a series of very robust security guarantees and not just guarantees on paper”, warned the French head of state during a videoconference of the “Coalition of the Willing”, reports Agerpres.

He specified that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will join this coalition meeting, mainly made up of European countries that want to provide these guarantees to Ukraine.

Ukraine has been subject to promises affected by successive Russian aggressions and therefore solid guarantees are necessary“, insisted President Macron.

These statements come at a time when diplomacy is once again in full swing to try to find a negotiated solution to the conflict in Ukraine, following the publication of an American plan that has been the subject of discussions in recent days.

“We are clearly at a crucial moment. The negotiations are gaining new momentum and we must take advantage of this impetus. I would like to salute the fact that the meetings in Geneva, on November 23, allowed for an open and constructive discussion between Ukraine and the USA”, added Emmanuel Macron.
