The European Union deemed the threats against the International Criminal Court (ICC) “unacceptable” on Tuesday, following the total offensive announced by the United States against the court in The Hague, reports AFP, according to Agerpres.
“We are firmly committed to international criminal justice,” declared a spokesperson for the Commission, Anouar El-Anouni, in response to the major campaign against the ICC launched on Monday by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, through a video message on X and an article in the Wall Street Journal.
“At the hour we speak, the CPI and its allies are waging a war against our country, not with bullets or missiles, but with the blows of statutes, treaties, and the force of what is called international law,” Rubio declared.
“If we remain with our arms crossed, we will all be at the mercy of foreign judges thousands of kilometers away, constantly exposed to the risk of being pursued, even incarcerated, for the so-called crime of defending our own country,” he added.
