“The “Flower Bridge” will become a reality. Construction of the road bridge over the Prut River, which will connect the localities of Golăieşti (Romania) and Zagarancea (Republic of Moldova), will begin on April 26, announced the Moldovan Minister of Infrastructure on Monday on Radio Moldova. On both banks, ceremonies will take place to mark the start of the construction, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026, according to Agerpres.Minister Vladimir Bolea has invited all Moldovan citizens who wish to participate in this symbolic moment.”On both banks, the foundation stone will be laid for the construction of the bridge. This is the highway that connects from Paşcani to Iaşi and to Ungheni. And, on our side, it is the first section – the first section of the highway will be built,” he said, adding that the bridge will mark the end of the A8 highway, also known as the “Highway of Unity.”The “Flower Bridge”
The future bridge will be named the “Flower Bridge”, in memory of the 1990 event when Romanians and Moldovans were symbolically reunited on the banks of the Prut River.According to Radio Moldova, the bridge will have four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, and pedestrian sidewalks. The total length will be 261 meters, and the width will reach 13 meters in the first phase, increasing to 24.25 meters in the second phase. The project also includes the construction of a border crossing point, equipped with facilities for thorough inspection, parking for trucks and cars, as well as a 1 km connecting road.The “Flower Bridge” is part of the strategic project of the A8 Unity Highway, which will connect Târgu Mureş – Iaşi – Ungheni to the border with the Republic of Moldova, connecting with National Road R1 Chişinău – Ungheni.According to Moldovan authorities, temporary road traffic can be opened on the bridge in the fall of 2026, while the completion of the Unity Highway is estimated to be in the period of 2029-2030.The investment is fully funded by European funds, through the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility, with the project value exceeding 30 million euros.”
