David Museliani, the former lover of gymnast Alina Kabaeva, is accused by Moscow authorities of embezzlement and has been put on international wanted list. He risks up to five years in prison if extradited.
Alina Kabaeva, now 42 years old, the former Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics and an emblematic figure of Russian sport, has recently reappeared in the public space. At the same time, her former partner, David “Shelva” Museliani (52 years old), is wanted by Russian authorities, according to the Daily Star.
The two had a relationship in the early 2000s, before Alina Kabaeva’s life intersected with that of President Vladimir Putin. Rumors of a romantic relationship between the gymnast and the Kremlin leader emerged in 2006, at a time when Kabaeva was already involved in a relationship with David Museliani, then a police officer.
After the first speculations about the affair between the champion gymnast and Vladimir Putin, the relationship with David Museliani abruptly ended. In 2008, the Moskovski Korrespondent newspaper even announced a supposed engagement between Alina Kabaeva and Vladimir Putin. The information was harshly denied by the Kremlin, and shortly afterwards the publication was closed, under circumstances that remain unexplained, although everyone suspects the reason.
What accusations are made against David Museliani
After breaking up with Alina Kabaeva, David Museliani gave up his police career and turned to real estate business in Moscow. His civilian career seemed promising, however, in 2022, Russian authorities launched a criminal investigation against him.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, an institution led by a former university colleague of Vladimir Putin, accused David Museliani of embezzling public funds. According to investigators, the “illegalities” took place during the period when he was a colonel responsible for anti-crime security measures in the National Guard, a structure under the direct control of the Kremlin.
Since then, the former officer has been on the international list of persons wanted by Russia.
Vladimir Putin’s Secret Sons
While her former lover is hunted by authorities, Alina Kabaeva continues to live a privileged life, away from the public eye. The international press presents her as the “secret first lady” of Russia, and independent sources claim that she is the mother of two boys of the Russian president, Ivan and Vladimir junior, who would live in the presidential residence in Valdai, in northwestern Russia, in a complex transformed into a real fortress, guarded by agents of the Presidential Guard. According to investigations published by the Dossier Center, the children are raised by nannies, tutors and private teachers, paid about 7,700 euros per month.
The births would have taken place under strict protection: the first, in Lugano (Switzerland) in 2015, and the second in Moscow, in 2019, assisted by a Swiss doctor.
