An international logistics network with three nodes massively fuels Russia’s war machinery. North Korea arms Russia and receives classified technologies in return. Approximately 70% of the ammunition used by Russia in the war against Ukraine is manufactured in North Korea, reports the Japanese publication Kyodo News, citing a Ukrainian analysis of classified documents regarding Moscow’s military resources.

These documents detail how Russia procures supplies from North Korea and Iran, while managing to evade Western sanctions on vital components for weapon manufacturing via China.

Since the start of the total war in 2022, Pyongyang has supplied Moscow with approximately 6.5 million ammunition in exchange for Russian military technologies.

The documents analyzed by journalists also indicate the transfer of air and space defense technologies, as well as aid worth 20 billion dollars. The documents, dating from September, contain hints about the transfer of nuclear technologies to North Korea.

Where do the electronic components for tanks and missiles come from?

But China has also indirectly fueled Russia’s war machinery.

Moscow has obtained components for missiles and tanks produced in Japan, the United States, and Europe through China, which opposes Western sanctions imposed on Russia because of the invasion of Ukraine.

It is estimated that approximately 90% of the electronic components supplied to the Russian defense industry, including semiconductors, come from China.
