Tens of people have died and hundreds have been injured in the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, in a toll that local authorities describe as a “dangerous escalation“. The Beirut government is calling for international support to stop the violence.
The Israeli army announced on Wednesday the execution of “the largest coordinated strikes” against Hezbollah since the beginning of the US-Israel conflict with Iran, which began at the end of February. According to reports from the Associated Press, Israeli forces targeted approximately 100 sites in Lebanon, in what Israeli military authorities describe as a massive and precisely coordinated operation.
Dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries
The Ministry of Health in Lebanon has released a preliminary report: “dozens dead and hundreds injured”, describing the situation as a “dangerous escalation”. Since Lebanon’s involvement in the conflict, at least 1,500 people have lost their lives, according to the same ministry.
Meanwhile, on the morning of April 8, the Israeli army issued evacuation orders for the inhabitants of the city of Tyre, in the south of the country, in anticipation of new military operations. Southern Lebanon was targeted by artillery bombardments and drone attacks, including in the cities of Kana and Al-Kaleileh. Also, shortly before the announcement of the armistice between the USA and Iran, an Israeli air attack on a car near some cafes in Saida resulted in eight deaths and 22 injuries, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
