The conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran is shaping up as a protracted war, with the potential to extend into the fall, despite the Trump administration’s initial estimates that operations could last only a few weeks. According to Politico, the Pentagon is accelerating the expansion of intelligence capabilities and redeploying specialized military personnel to support a campaign much longer than publicly presented.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has requested the deployment of new intelligence officers to its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, to support operations against Iran for at least 100 days, possibly until September, notes Middle East Eye, citing the same source.
This is the first known move by the Trump administration to supplement intelligence personnel dedicated to the conflict, signaling that Washington is preparing for an extended campaign.
Military planning of such magnitude is usually done months in advance, but the rapid pace of decisions shows that the United States did not anticipate the consequences of triggering the conflict alongside Israel.
Politico previously reported that some of President Trump’s advisers preferred Israel to strike first, followed by an American intervention, a scenario that has materialized.
Human Losses and Regional Impact
The Israeli-American attacks on Iran have caused at least 1,000 deaths and hundreds of injuries, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, including over 165 children killed in an attack on a school – one of the most serious incidents since the beginning of the war. In parallel, CENTCOM confirmed the death of six American soldiers in Kuwait, following an Iranian attack.
Marco Rubio acknowledges: Israel forced the US’s hand
The conflict risks dominating the rest of President Donald Trump’s term and deepening divisions within his electoral base, where many supporters oppose involvement in a new war in the Middle East in support of Israel.
