The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, stated on Tuesday that, if the inhabitants of this autonomous territory had to choose, at this moment, between Denmark and the USA, they would choose to stay in Denmark, reports Agerpres, quoting EFE news agency.

“Greenland wants no one to own or control it. If we had to choose right now between the USA and Denmark, then we choose Denmark. This is not the time for internal divergences, but the time to be united,” Nielsen declared at a joint press conference with the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen.

Nielsen reiterated that Greenland “is not for sale” and that it is a rule of law state, describing the situation as “very serious”, due to the “immense pressure” exerted by the United States regarding this territory.

“The red line is that Greenland cannot be bought. We are together in the kingdom with Denmark and we will always be part of the western alliance”, the Prime Minister of Greenland emphasized. He also stated that “the future of Greenland will be decided by the Greenlanders, as provided by the autonomy statute and this is the message we are taking on Wednesday to the United States”.
