The resignation of Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Mihailo Fedorov, has sparked discontent. This comes after a dispute between the young official and the army chief.

Fedorov is a technology expert. He aimed to transform the numerically outnumbered Kiev army into a more efficient fighting force to confront Russia. The official explained in a press conference how General Sărski blocked the reform he desired.

The former Ukrainian Defense Minister revealed to the press that he insisted on replacing the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Alexandr Sîrski, however, Vladimir Zelenski rejected the measure.

The Ukrainian president would have tried to defuse the situation between the two, but he did not succeed, writes hotnews.ro. Following Fedorov’s statements, the leader from Kiev had to publicly appeal for unity in the army.

“Honestly, a president in wartime should not have to choose in such a situation. I very much desire unity. The two sides have not managed to find it. I do not shirk responsibility. And I respect the parties, I know their strengths, I know their weaknesses and I very much want them to strengthen Ukraine. But things are as they are. And in such a situation, the solution is either one side or the other, because without me they do not sit at the table. Therefore, I will demonstrate, without a doubt, the consistency of my actions. I simply show: if the parties cannot solve the problem, I will have to solve it,” said Zelenski.

Among the protesters dissatisfied with the dismissal of Fedorov were also soldiers and veterans who hoped that the official would solve the acute problems in the Ukrainian army.
