The resolution of the Transnistrian issue was one of the topics discussed at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. President Maia Sandu was asked by Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko how Chisinau plans to resolve the dispute.

The official from Kiev referred to Moldova’s separatist region as the “elephant in the room”. In his opinion, the area represents a “black hole”, being coordinated even by Russian special services.

“We have worked very hard since the beginning of the war, to prevent the region from becoming unstable and dragging the country into war. This would not help anyone. We are fully dedicated to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. It is not so easy when Russia refuses to withdraw its troops that are illegally stationed on our territory,” Maia Sandu replied.

The President of Moldova reiterated that the constitutional authorities are taking measures for the economic reintegration of the region and that there are changes. “We will continue to seek a peaceful solution, a peaceful withdrawal of Russian troops from our territory, because we want to maintain peace for our people,” concluded Maia Sandu.
