The authorities in the autonomous district of Yamalo-Nenets have established a reward of one million rubles (10,300 euros) for reservists from mobile fire groups who manage to down enemy drones, wrote The Moscow Times on Wednesday.
This is the largest public reward offered by a region of Russia for the downing of Ukrainian drones, according to the Russian state news agency TASS.
Other regions offer smaller rewards, ranging between 20,000 rubles (206 euros) and 200,000 rubles (2,060 euros).
Reservists serving in mobile groups will have the right to an equal share of the reward if the intercepted drone does not cause damage to local infrastructure, according to the regional decree cited by TASS.
A region rich in natural gas
The Yamalo-Nenets district, which is located approximately 2,200 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and is rich in natural gas, was hit for the first time by Ukrainian drones in September.
On September 9, an industrial facility in the city of Novyi Urengoy, located in Yamalo-Nenets and considered the unofficial gas capital of Russia, caught fire as a result of a drone attack.
Approximately 80% of all natural gas in Russia is extracted from the Yamalo-Nenets region, according to the Interfax news agency.
