Garry Kasparov has warned that Ukraine’s victory is the only path to a lasting peace in Europe and the only real chance for Russia to begin to return to the civilized world, according to kyivpost.com.

Kasparov, the 13th world chess champion, representative of the Russian opposition and member of the Platform for Dialogue with Russian Democratic Forces in Exile within PACE, made these statements in an interview given to the advocacy publication Euroscope.

The leader of the Russian opposition has argued that there is a simple test to check if a Russian politician is truly pro-Western: he must affirm without hesitation that the war waged by Moscow is a criminal one, that Vladimir Putin is illegitimate, and that Crimea belongs to Ukraine.

“Many still stumble even today when they have to say that Crimea is Ukrainian,” Kasparov noted.

For Kasparov, the strategic task of the democratic world is clear: to help Ukraine win.
