The United States has imposed sanctions on several structures of the Russian Ministry of Defense, two Russian companies, and five Russian citizens, announced the State Department in a message published on August 4, cited by Kyiv Independent.
The measures target the Main Directorate for Missiles and Artillery, the 1061 Technical-Material Support Center, the Directorate for Advanced Inter-Army Research and Special Projects, as well as the Russian Ground Forces. The sanctions also apply to any successor structures, subdivisions, or affiliates of the entities listed.
The State Department has also sanctioned the Russian companies International Invest Company and Gedion Alpha Company, as well as Russian citizens Aleksandr Prihodko, Andrei Gusev, Andrei Kosolapov, Vladislav Morozik, and Serghei Țibarev.
According to the announcement of the US diplomacy, the individuals and entities targeted have carried out activities that justify the imposition of sanctions under American legislation on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in connection with Iran, North Korea, and Syria.
The sanctions came into effect on July 24 and will remain valid for two years, unless they are lifted earlier by the State Department.
The measures prohibit American governmental agencies from purchasing goods or services from the sanctioned structures, from providing them assistance, or from selling them weapons.
