An American defense website claims to have seen a secret document revealing a shocking strategy of the Trump administration: the detachment of Austria, Italy, Hungary, and Poland from the European Union, as part of a new plan titled “Make Europe Great Again”, to bring them closer to Washington’s sphere of influence.
The document, published by Defense One and quoted by Daily Mail, would recommend that Washington bring these four states closer to its own sphere of influence, undermining EU cohesion and supporting parties and political movements that “seek sovereignty and the preservation or restoration of the traditional European way of life”.
The scandal comes just a week after the publication of the US’s official 33-page national security strategy, which warned of the risk of “the disappearance of civilization” in Europe and questioned the future loyalty of some EU member states.
The White House categorically denies the existence of the document
The White House has firmly rejected the allegations. Spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated that there is no “alternative version” of the strategy and that President Trump “signed a clear, transparent strategy that clearly guides the US government to implement the established principles and priorities”.
However, Defense One published excerpts from a supposed “more extensive” version, which would have circulated before the publication of the official document. In this, Austria, Italy, Hungary, and Poland would have been explicitly mentioned as states that the US should “pull away from the European Union”.
