The way in which the EU should respond to a potential hybrid attack with multiple victims was addressed by EU ambassadors. The discussions took place in recent weeks, in a “restricted format”.
The issue is increasingly addressed, following the discovery of a drone loaded with explosives at Leipzig airport in August. The authorities in Berlin have accused Russia of the incident.
For years, the EU has been discussing such scenarios, even launching a set of tools to combat hybrid threats meant to coordinate responses to cyber attacks, electoral interference, and acts of sabotage, writes hotnews.ro, referring to Politico. However, recent discussions have focused on the risk of more serious attacks, which could result in a large number of victims.
Two diplomats stated that a meeting of EU ambassadors, held last Wednesday, specifically targeted such situations. European officials determine how the mobilization of emergency response teams will unfold, how EU funds will be unlocked to support the affected state, and how the leaders of European institutions should communicate.
