“The United States has made its final “offer” to Ukraine for ending the war with Russia, a framework in which Crimea would be officially recognized, including by the American government, as part of Russia, while other occupied Ukrainian territories would remain de facto Russian, Axios reports, with the Americans awaiting a response from the Ukrainians to this proposal on Wednesday, essentially recognizing Russia’s territorial annexation.A one-page document presented by American officials to the Ukrainians in Paris last week outlines President Trump’s “final offer” for Ukraine. The American government insists it will walk away from negotiations if the two parties do not reach a quick agreement.Trump is asking Ukraine for massive concessions, essentially a “peace of the vanquished” while Russia gets almost everything it wants.Previously, Volodymyr Zelensky had ruled out the possibility of ceding Crimea or any other Ukrainian territories, while Vladimir Putin rejected other elements of the American framework, such as peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.A source close to the Ukrainian government says officials in Kiev see the proposal as blatantly pro-Russian – “The proposal is very clear about what Russia will tangibly receive, but very vague and general about what Ukraine will receive.”What Russia would receive, according to Trump’s proposal
The Kremlin regime would receive a gift from the Americans with most of its urgent requests in the war in Ukraine:De jure recognition of the annexation of Crimea
“De facto” recognition of the Russian occupation in most of the Luhansk region and in the areas directly occupied by invaders in Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia.
A promise that Ukraine will never become a member of NATO. However, the text states that Ukraine could become a member of the European Union.
The lifting of sanctions against Russia imposed since 2014 until the present
Increased economic cooperation with the United States, particularly in the energy and industry sectors
What Ukraine would receive
Trump’s proposal states that Ukraine would receive:A robust security guarantee that would involve a peacekeeping force made up of soldiers from European countries and other non-European countries interested in getting involved. However, the document is vague about how this peacekeeping operation would be carried out. US involvement is not mentioned either.
The Russians would be required to withdraw from the small part of the Kharkiv region that they still occupy.
Ukraine would be granted passage rights on the Dnieper River, which runs along the front line in the south of the country.
Compensation and aid for reconstruction. However, the document does not specify the source of funding for these provisions.
Other elements of the plan
According to Trump’s plan, the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest of its kind in Europe, would be considered Ukrainian territory but would be controlled by the US, with the American government supplying energy to both Russia and Ukraine from there. The document also mentions the US-Ukraine mineral agreement, which Trump says will be signed on Thursday. This plan was drafted after Trump’s envoy to Russia, Steve Witkoff, had a more than four-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin on Thursday.Following the presentation of the plan, Putin offered to freeze the war along the current front line as part of a potential agreement. This offer indicates that either Putin is already aware of the American ideas, or that the plan was jointly drafted by the Kremlin and Trump’s diplomats.Details, HERE.”
