Volodimir Zelenski stated that the proposals negotiated with American officials regarding a peace agreement to end Russia’s war in Ukraine could be finalized in a few days, after which American envoys will present them to the Kremlin.
After two days of discussions in Berlin, American officials said on Monday that they had resolved “90%” of the difficult issues between Russia and Ukraine, however, despite the positive tone, it is unclear whether the end of the war is closer, especially given that the Russian side is missing from the current discussions.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Ukrainian president stated that he expects the US Congress to vote on security guarantees and that he expects a final set of documents to be prepared “today or tomorrow”. After that, he said, the US will hold consultations with the Russians, followed by high-level meetings that could take place as early as this weekend.
“We rely on five documents. Some of them target security guarantees: legally binding, that is, voted and approved by the US Congress,” the Ukrainian president declared. He specified that these guarantees would “reflect Article 5” of NATO.
