Ukraine has urged the United States to impose sanctions on several Russian entities contributing to the development of Moscow’s “Rassvet” satellite network, the Russian alternative to SpaceX’s “Starlink” network, according to Reuters.
Denys Sienik, the deputy head of the diplomatic mission of the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, stated that Russia is rapidly expanding the “Rassvet” satellite network, asserting that its objective to commence operations in 2027 would pose serious risks for Ukraine.
“If they launch Rassvet by the end of 2026, they will be able to strike Ukrainian targets in real time from our territory,” said Sienik, adding that he will provide the US government and Congress with details about the companies and individuals that Kiev accuses of supporting the Rassvet project.
“If these entities are not sanctioned, this will make the program possible for Russia, and that will completely change the situation,” said Sienik.
The US Treasury Department did not immediately comment on Ukraine’s pressures for new sanctions.
