Ukraine is alleged to have struck a petroleum refinery and a chemical plant in the western regions of Russia during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, according to several Russian channels on Telegram.

The attacks caused severe fires, but the information has not yet been officially confirmed by Kiev, according to Mediafax.

Ukrainian forces are said to have launched attacks on two major industrial targets in western Russia, a refinery and a chemical plant, as part of a new series of strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, local channels on Telegram report, quoted by international press.

In the Ulyanovsk region, the NS-Oil refinery in the town of Novospasskoye is said to have been hit, and images published online show a large-scale fire.

Witnesses claim that the flames spread rapidly over a large part of the installation.

The second attack is said to have targeted the Stavrolen chemical plant in Stavropol Krai, a subsidiary of the giant Lukoil, according to Kyiv Independent.

Recordings published on social networks show an explosion followed by an intense fire inside the complex.

The factory produces benzene, polyethylene, and other petroleum products used in Russia’s war industry.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the information, and the authenticity of the images has not been independently verified.
