The Armed Forces Units of Ukraine (AFU) are launching counterattacks in the besieged city of Pokrovsk, and the Russian assault will be repelled, the head of the Ukrainian army, General Oleksandr Sîrski, confidently stated on Monday, according to Kyiv Post.
“Pokrovsk is a solidly fortified area. Indeed, in a few places the Russians have managed to get past the barriers, but the command is aware of those places,” stated a communique published Monday by the Ukrainian Army’s General Staff. “The intensity of enemy attacks has decreased for now, but that does not mean they have changed their plans. Ukraine is prepared for any development.”
The head of the Ukrainian army, in separate comments published by the New York Post on Monday, stated that the situation in the Pokrovsk defensive sector is tense, but under control.
The Kremlin has concentrated over “150,000 people”, including mechanized groups and four naval infantry brigades, to breach the Ukrainian defense and conquer the strategically important eastern city, he said.
Major Andri Kovalev, the spokesperson for the General Staff, stated on Monday that the Ukrainian army is under great pressure in the Pokrovsk sector, but Russian casualties are numerous and Kiev’s forces maintain their positions.
“The defense of the Pokrovsk-Mirnohrad agglomeration continues. The situation is complex and dynamic. Here, the enemy uses all available reserves, in return, they suffer huge losses,” he said. “On Sunday, new supplies of weapons and ammunition were delivered to the units defending the city. In addition, personnel rotation and evacuation of the wounded were carried out. At the same time, the logistics and rotation of our units in the city of Pokrovsk are reliable.”
