The Pristina headquarters of the European Union’s civilian mission in Kosovo (EULEX) was attacked on Wednesday with stones and other objects by hundreds of Kosovars after the prison sentences pronounced by a Hague tribunal against the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) were made known, reports EFE, relayed by Agerpres.
The Kosovar public television, TV Klan, broadcasted live the gathering of people in front of the EULEX building, which was protected by a large police force.
The images showed how the population, outraged by the verdicts that found fighters considered national heroes in Kosovo guilty of war crimes for their fight for independence, were throwing blunt objects at the building, such as stones, slabs, and plastic bottles, in addition to fireworks, breaking several windows.
According to local press, the crowd gathered after the Special Court for Kosovo (TSK) in The Hague pronounced on Wednesday the first-instance convictions against the former Kosovar president Hashim Thaci and three other former UCK leaders.

The sentences, watched by thousands of people in the center of Pristina
Thaci, aged 58, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for war crimes, arbitrary detentions, cruel treatment, torture, and killing during the Kosovo conflict from 1998-1999, a sentence equal to that received by Jakup Krasniqi, while Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi were sentenced to 18 and 13 years in prison, respectively.
