A video clip that went viral on social networks has sparked heated debates, after a woman from Russia described the conditions in which she lives with her family, notes Dialog

The woman, aged 41 and mother of four children, claims that she only washes once a month, due to the lack of basic conditions in her home.

“We wash ourselves once a month. Sounds strange, doesn’t it? But that’s our reality. I’m 41 years old and have four children. We live in a small village, in an old house, with a stove that could go out at any time. We don’t have a shower or a washing machine,” says the woman in the video.

This explains the fact that daily hygiene is difficult to ensure, and the water must be heated over a fire.

“We usually wash at home, in basins. We heat the water, carry it, cool it and heat it again. And once a month there is a special occasion for us. We go to the public bath. For some it’s something usual, but for us it’s a real ritual. Steam, hot water and, for a few hours, life seems a bit easier,” she added.

The images have sparked numerous reactions online, being seen by many as evidence of the difficult conditions in which some communities in Russia live.

The discussions have been amplified by the current context, in which the Russian state allocates considerable resources for the war in Ukraine.
