Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday, according to the press. Orban has urged the EU to support the US plan and initiate direct discussions with Russia, reports Euronews.

The information comes from sources within the Hungarian government who were involved in preparing the trip, according to the Central European investigative publication VSquare.

The Hungarian government has not confirmed the visit so far, with Budapest stating that it will inform the public about Orban’s schedule at the appropriate time.

The agenda of the meeting is not yet known. However, the Hungarian Prime Minister has maintained ties with Putin since Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the two leaders have kept in touch regularly, meeting in person three times since the beginning of 2022.
