“This day still represents a firm and clear affirmation of freedom, dignity and the right to autonomy of the Szekler community,” she asserts. “The Szekler community currently claims, through democratic means, the respect of its historical rights, such as the guarantee of territorial autonomy of the Szekler Land. These aspirations are in accordance with European fundamental values and principles regarding the protection of the rights of indigenous national communities.”
The Szekler Freedom Day sends a clear message every year: the Szeklers do not give up their language, culture, traditions, community rights and the aspiration for autonomy that define their identity – emphasized the Prime Minister’s advisor.
