The European Commission will present, before July, a new European security strategy, intended to provide an “adequate response” to geopolitical changes, announced on Thursday the President of the institution, Ursula von der Leyen, according to EFE, quoted by Agerpres.

“The goal is, in fact, to gather all the knowledge to recognize the changes, the geostrategic changes and existing needs, but also the geopolitical changes in our world and to provide an adequate response to them,” stated Ursula von der Leyen, in a press conference held on the occasion of the visit of the College of European Commissioners to Cyprus.

In the context where Cyprus holds the rotating six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, the head of the European executive specified that, during this period, a new defense strategy will be presented.

“It is time to adopt a new European approach in this regard and, in the current context in terms of security and defense, we have decided that it is also the moment, during its presidency, to present a new European security strategy,” affirmed Ursula von der Leyen.

The President of the Commission also said that work on this initiative has already begun and emphasized that, as the document is in an early stage, “it is not prudent to limit or explicitly extend different topics”.
