What do the most recent negotiations regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine tell us about the disposition and intentions of Russian President Vladimir Putin? For starters, that he is not ready to sign a peace agreement.
At least not now. And certainly not the agreement (or agreements) under discussion, reports the BBC.
“A compromise version has not yet been found,” commented the Kremlin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, after five hours of discussions in Moscow between Putin, American envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, adviser and son-in-law of Donald Trump.
The lack of a compromise is not a surprise, considering the harsh statements of the Kremlin leader in recent days.
In recent interventions, he has described the Ukrainian leadership as a “junta of thieves,” accused European leaders of trying to sabotage peace efforts, and insisted that Russia holds control on the battlefield.
Several times, Russian televisions have broadcast images of Putin in military clothing, studying the maps of the front and announcing victories that both Ukraine and international observers have disputed.
