Experts are analyzing how real an Iranian threat to Europe could be, after US authorities recently warned of possible drone attacks.
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued an alert this week to authorities in California about possible Iranian drone attacks on the west coast of the US. The warning would have been a response to the military operation carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran.
However, the White House dismissed the scenario, stating that there is no credible information indicating such an immediate threat.
Nonetheless, concerns have increased after an Iranian Shahed-type kamikaze drone hit a British Royal Air Force base in Cyprus on March 1. The next day, Iran allegedly attempted another attack on the same base, but two drones were intercepted at the last moment by RAF Typhoon fighter jets that had taken off from RAF Akrotiri.
The “Shahed” Drones and Their Range
Drones have become one of the most effective modern weapons, as they can hit targets at great distances with relatively low costs and can overburden air defense systems, writes the Daily Mail.
The Iranian kamikaze drones from the Shahed family have a range of about 2,500 kilometers. They have been widely used by Russia in the war in Ukraine, causing significant damage and civilian casualties.
